Starwood--->AA" transfer still feasible?">"ClickRewards--->Starwood--->AA" transfer still feasible?

  • I have about 3000 miles in my ClickRewards account that I earned through CompuBank. I can't transfer them directly to AA, so I'm thinking of transferring them to Starwood Preferred Guest, and then to AA. (This will also give me Starwood as a partner for the 20/20 promotion.)

However, I noticed that the Starwood website warns that "Starpoints must be earned within the Starwood Preferred Guest Program" to be eligible for transfer. Is this a rule that's enforced? Did anyone have any problems doing this kind of a transfer?

    Thanks! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

  • You can transfer them just fine -- without any problems at all. I have done it many times...all posted very quickly.

    Clickreward to Starwood...1:1
    Starwood to Airlines...1:1

Keep in mind that there are "minimum" transfer amounts from Starwood to the airlines; I know if you are "gold" the minimum is 1,500. I'm not sure what the minimum is if you are a regular member.

  • Before anyone gets too antsy, it seems Clickrewards only transfers to Starwood once a month. I wouldn't expect to see another transfer until early August. It does work, however, so just be patient.

  • Don't you lose half your points when you run them through Starwood.

  • I executed a transfer from ClickRewards to Starwood on 6/15. Points showed up in Starwood account about 7/5. I executed transfer from Starwood to AAdvantage on 7/6. Miles appeared in AAdvantage account on 7/12.

  • The ClickRewards to Starwoods 20/25 bonus is my favorite way to earn bonus miles. I do everything possible through ClickRewards and every time I get to 20,000 ClickMiles I get 25,000 Miles on Continental. Last year I flew first class round trip to paris for free on my honeymoon and stayed in paris for 4 of 5 nights free, too.

  • Is there a minimum amount of miles you can transfer? I am looking for another partner for AA but am new at clickrewards so I don't have alot of clickrewards yet.

I was thrown by that, as well, initially...thankfully, the matter was ultimately clarified -- earning & transferring from Starwood partners is considered to be earning "in the SPG program", officially (makes sense...though it's understandable why we would, by default, tend to interpret "earned within the Starwood Preferred Guest Program" to mean "earned at Starwood properties").

  • OK, I just did an SPG transfer this morning. A few weeks ago, I subscribed to Inside Flyer magazine which came with a 1200 Starpoint bonus and also initiated a ClickMiles transfer (1300 pts). Today, both these items were posted to my SPG account, so I've transferred 2500 Starpoints to AA miles. Hopefully they will post soon.

In theory, ClickMiles transferred directly to AA will count as a partner for the 20/20k (I moved 250 miles in a separate transaction about a month back) and this Starpoints transfer will also count as a partner.

IIRC, Staying at a Starwood property and earning the AA miles (directly) that way is also supposed to be a separate partner from SPG point transfers. Additionally, each hotel brand is supposed to count as a separate partner too.

  • Min transfer for regular SPG members is 2500 Starpoints ==> 2500 airline miles.

  • 250 clickrewards to AA

  • This transfer does work. Also, if you can accumulate 20,000 Starwood points (all can be from Clickrewards), they will transfer to your chosen airline as 25,000 miles (extra 5,000 point bonus gets added to your account at time of transfer and 25,000 miles post to your airline).

Yes...the minimum re: transfer from ClickRewards to Starwood is 250 ClickMiles...the minimum re: transfer from Starwood to FF acct is a function of your Starwood Preferred Guest status (I think it goes like this: 2000 Starpoint minimum if non-elite, 1500 Starpoint minimum if Gold, & no minimum if Platinum [if anyone reading this knows any of this to be incorrect, please correct/clarify (TIA)]).
